Yes, their nails can ruin the liner especially if they try to get out in deeper water. She nudges her dogs to the built in stairs, that works well too. They do make thicker liners, sort of the same principal as trash bags with different ml thicknesses, the higher the ml the thicker and stronger the liner. Of course, the more ml's the more $$. We have a very large above ground pool with a deck around it. NEVER let your pet near the water unless you are in the pool with them. We have had ours a few years now and never once have they snagged the liner. It is a thick liner as well. We have a large air mattress in the pool when we are in there, the dogs like to la on that and dry off, they have never popped that either. Our Sheltie , we usually put in a chair [Floating] Because he has arthritis, our Westie and Silky we just watch for when they want to get out or else they could rip the liner.So just help them in and out and watch them and stay with them just like you would a small child.
