What type of swimming pool heater can I use?

March 1, 2010

I have a one piece fiberglas swimming pool, 9 x 17, approx. 5,000 gallons, that is installed in ground, inside my house basement. I want to purchase a water heater for it, not gas, but electric only. Where do I get information as to what type to use, and what size to get?

House struck by lightning…things are wacky…?

February 23, 2010

Hit 10 days ago, Now stovetop won’t light (gas cooktop w/electric ignition). My swimming pool heater will not heat up. It turns on but it will not heat the water. My alarm system is burnt up. I could smell wires burnt in home and alarm company called right after it happened. Everything else in home is fine. I did have to reset gfi plugs and unplug printer and then plug it back up. But everything else works.. Why gas related appliances and how do you fix it? Can I do it myself?
Oh yea…what are the chances my house could get hit again?

I found Duck eggs what do i do??

February 16, 2010

I found them in my back yard, i have a jungle like pool setup that ducks love. Between some rocks i found 5 duck eggs. They were tucked in by what looked like fur feather material. The eggs have been there for about 10 days. They felt kind of cold i hope there not dead. They are in a cardboard box wrapped in towels as of now and a electric heater is blowing on them. Will they make it?? How often should the eggs be rotated.

What else should I know about the tank less water heaters?
I heard i should avoid electric ones. What is the differenve

what can I expect from an energy auditor from an electric company?

February 2, 2010

Right now my house is 84 degree AC going constant. I do not know what else I can do other than putting window films up, putting black out curtain up, unplugging all the electronics I am not using, have ceiling fans going constant, shutting of a water heater system, etc, etc, etc…. I do not have swimming pool or anyone else living here on 1500 sq ft home getting direct sun on the long side of the house 12 hrs a day here in Florida.

INSTALLING A POOL HEATER..HELP!!?

December 22, 2009

This may be kind of a stupid question, but I am going to have a Hayward 250,000 BTU natural gas pool heater installed for my in-ground pool next week. I could not find any “one” company that would do it all, so I have a plumber set up to run the gas line and an electrician to wire it up. My question is, who should I have do there job first? What comes first? Gas or electric? Thanks..

How to heat an Intex pool, already looked at other resolved questions..?

December 8, 2009

I have an Intex above ground 15′ round by 4′ deep pool. The weather here makes pools too cold. I have read the other ‘how to heat my pool’ questions and still have another.

I’ve ruled out a gas heater (despite the fact that I have a free natural gas well). One heater manufacturer said it would burn the sides of the pool.

I do not want an ugly solar contraption on the roof as I built my house myself and am happy with how it looks.

The electric heaters, apparently, don’t heat well enough and cost a fortune.

So, my question is about the the coiled black tube method. I don’t understand how the original pump, 637R, can power water through a series of hoses, UP to a roof and through the filter without burning out. I know that they do not have to be on a roof, but if I can find a suitable ground area, what length of hose would work? AAAND, i have a solar cover and pool cover but people keep saying leave them on during the day, but my kids SWIM during the day, even with cold water.

Physics Help – Energy / Efficiency Problem?

December 1, 2009

I don’t even know how to go about starting this problem. I am so lost…

1. Compute the cost (to the nearest penny) of warming the water in a swimming pool by 9 degrees F (5 degrees C) using a gas pool heater having 80% efficiency.

2. Repeat the computation if the pool uses an electric heater having 80% efficiency.

Pool characteristics:
diamater: 18 feet, round
height: 4 feet, but average water depth is 3.5 feet

Use current gas and electric rates from Nationalgrid utility bill:
gas charge equals .01 per therm
electricity rate is 16 cents per kilowatt-hour

1 therm = 105480.4 kiloJoules
1 kwh = 3600 kiloJoules
1 cu ft = 28.317 liters
1 liter = 1 kg of water
1 cal = 4.187 J
1 btu = 1.0548 kJ

Pool heater died – need help selecting a replacement please!?

November 25, 2009

We’re in Western PA, and have a 16 X 32 inground pool (steel with vinyl liner). Our 8 yr old Hayward natural gas pool heater died. Our pool guy said we need a new 150,000 BTU heater. The gas pilot heater is 50 + tax and an electric ignition version is ,150 + tax installed. We plan on living in the house for at least another 3 yrs. I don’t know what brand he’s recommending.

A 150,000 BTU Hayward H-Series heater from a discount catalog is ,400 with a pilot light and ,550 with an electronic ignition. I haven’t gotten installation prices yet.

Do you recommend pilot light or electronic ignition? Anything else I should watch out for? My inclination is to try to go as cheap as possible.
