Possibility of building a pool in the basement?

Say if I were going to custom design a house and have it so there is full inground pool in my basement. Is this possible? Would I have to worry about moisture damage even if the house is built to suit any complications that might occur due to the moisture? Are there any other problems that I might have to worry about? The house is about 4,ooo sqft with most of it being on the lower level. The area in which we plan on building has to have a basement to that’s not a problem. It would also be a walk-out as well.

I really see a problem with moisture down the road even if you install a dehumidifier…. Consider the pressure exerted ontop of the pool walls over time while the house settles. If you crack a pool wall the waterflow could destabilize your foundation and cause part of the home to sink. That said consider a pool on ground level and enclose it in a four season room. The view will be beautiful come any season and you will feel like your outside but with all the comforts of inside. Save the basement to finish as a rec room later. Just my humble opinion.

Its possible but would be very expensive and may not even be allowed by the city/county. Start with the building department and see what they say.

Also, check with a couple of local Realtors and appraisers to even see if it would add value to the home.

Pools are expensive, and some people see them either as the greatest asset or the biggest liability.

For example…in Florida, alot of people expect pools to be at a home, but in areas like Virginia and Maryland…it’s just seen as a huge expense and families with very young children will shy away…it’s hard enough to bar kids from pools outside…can you imagine selling one to someone with one inside?

I doubt you can get a permit, but I would make sure before you start designing.
